Our trip this morning was to the remote border town of Tan Chau. First we travelled by trishaw to the local market. That was bloody uncomfortable, then out to a temple and then local sampans out to a fish farm (that was about as interesting as watching paint dry) looking down into a hole with a load of fish. The rest was good though!
It was like riding a tin can.
This was definitely not a tourist town. They must have wondered who on earth we were, wandering around peering at their stalls.
But really friendly, and you didn't feel like you were intruding or imposing.
River Ferry, it looked very wobbly.
Water hyacinths being farmed for fish food. It's everywhere.
Rod making friends
Steve, who provided hours of entertainment!
We had thought that we would have to get off at the border and troll through customs, but the ship company had organised it all and we just sailed on through into Cambodia late afternoon. Great as I had heard that the customs can sometimes be difficult.
As soon as we were in Cambodia the scenery changed completely. Gone were villages and instead it was much more flat and rural, with a straggle of houses every so often and little sign of people.
I think it needs a little DIY.
So this afternoon we are heading for Phnom Penh arriving around 10pm. In the meantime we had a cookery class, this time a different type of spring roll and chicken Amok, which is a type of green curry and delicious. We will definitely be trying that out when we get back.
A gorgeous sunset by the river.
