Phew the days are flying away with us. Because it is the low water season we will not be able to sail all the way up Tonsap Le lake, instead we have zigzagged our way up different rivers and the most of the bottom part of the lake, and last night we tuned back towards Phnom Penh before setting off along the main river which will take us towards Siem Reap.
Today we went to Oknha Tey Island. it is a relatively wealth region and village due to silk weaving and we docked at the island and walked into the village to see the silk weavers and the optional shopping opportunity of course. It was a fascinating place and we were there for about three hours, walking around.
Bijou little properties!
Beautiful silk, this fabric is used for wedding outfits, but hard work and a long time.
Fields of lotus flowers.
A temple specialising figures of giant fruit.
And the another working village.
This lovely lady who showed us how to move peanuts into piles! But it was so funny when Klause showed up. A German guy from Stuttgart. Rod had got enough attention being tall everywhere we went, but Klaus was 6ft 6, this lady turned her head to his feet and then kept looking up slowly. When she reached his head with the look of utter astonishment on her face, she started to howl with laughter and everyone else started laughing as well.
Klaus had to have one oxcart to himself!
This bull must have been about 8ft tall.
Typical house made from local products.
Huge pots to catch the rain water.
Our last visit was an absolute treat. We visited a local school and sat with the children during their English lesson.
My girls.
Our day finished off with the crew members showing how to wear the local costume. Guess who got dragged up and I look like a sack of potatoes. And seemingly I got married of to Jim from Scotland. Rod didnt bat an eye lid.
A great day had by all.
