Saigon Day 2

Today we decided to walk out past the reunification palace to a park called Le Van Tam Park and visit the Jade Pagoda and the Botanical garden.  We knew that it would be quite a walk, but didn't release how tough in 37 degrees plus... But we did it.

We walked through the park to the Jade Pagoda. I thought pagoda would be in the middle of a park, but no it was down a busy market street. What was nice was to see a working pagoda. We don't know if it was a special day, but it was packed with people and stalls outside selling incense and offerings for the temple.  It smelt wonderful.

And then we walked to the botanical gardens. Unfortunately it was lumped together with the city zoo which we weren't interested in, but you couldn't split the two. The garden were lush, green and a shaded place to wander around. The zoo wasn't particularly nice and I hated to see the elephants out in full sunlight, they seemed very stressed.

As it was very hot most of the animals were alseep in their beds, the best place to be.

Hot with sore feet we hobbled home to cool down. And then went out in search of a late lunch. We walked around the back of the hotel which seemed to be full of Japanese restaurants and we later found out that there was quite a large Japanese community in Saigon from way back.

So we went in and had the most wonderful Japanese lunch.  I had sushi, which the chef prepared it in front of me.  I can easily say it was the freshest and most delicious I have ever eaten.

We were so impressed that we returned in the evening and had our dinner there.

Odds and ends for you!
